My first [day at] UDS

After about one year of contribution to Ubuntu community, I was curious to see what a UDS (Ubuntu Developer Summit) looks like.

I left Nice on Saturday with Milo, who is involved in Ubuntu as well. After a long trip worsted by the strike of Air France and some others, costly, incidents, we got to Orlando in the evening (local time) and already met at the hotel some interesting people from the Ubuntu Florida LoCo team and others.

The atmosphere was definetly nice and welcoming!

Disneyworld

The day after we went to Dinsneyworld: as a grownup I still enjoy Disney world so much! We went to a couple of parks, Hollywood Studios and Epcot. I really enjoyed them both, also thanks to the fact they were far less crowded than expected!

First day at UDS

After breakfast, we stepped into the big ballroom for the first plenary session: the keynote by Mark Shuttleworth. In his speech he begun thanking the teams for the work done in developing the latest tools and features of Ubuntu. Then he turned to look forward: his vision is to see Ubuntu running on the broadest set of devices, including TVs and car GPS.

After the plenary session, many tracks started. I chose to attend the roundtable about community and its management, followed by a discussion about Kubuntu.

In the afternoon I joined the meeting of Ubuntu Women and I really enjoyed the proactive attitude of the people there! Moreover it’s been great to meet in person the people that I’ve read for monthes through emails and blogs.

The overall experience you can feel walking around in the rooms and corridors of the summit, is of fun and desire for collaboration and of sharing ideas.

In the evening a dinner was offered, and there were cupcakes!
